This Springfield Armory manufactured third variation receiver sub-assembly is for the model 1873 trapdoor rifle or carbine and is in good condition exhibiting a grayish brown patina with traces of original oil quenched case hardened finish, some specks of rust and possible pin prick pitting. The receiver sub-assembly consists of the receiver, ejector stud and the breech screw (aka tang). Third variation receivers will have the deeper gas ports, measure 1.165" in width and have the rounded cut at the forward end under the hinge pin lugs.

Note: Model 1873 trapdoor receivers of the third variation with the following serial numbers have been observed: 140397, 318608, 378177, 381679, 499799, 513260, 520902, 529407 & 538468
